3 Lessons I've Learned about Being A Creator
I’ve been creating content for 10 months, I’ve built an audience, monetized, and quit my 9-5.
Along the way, I’ve made many mistakes and learned many things.
Today I wanted to share with you 3 lessons I’ve learned so far about entrepreneurship that I wish someone told me.
1. Patience
The greatest predictor of success isn’t talent or hard work, but it’s patience.
You don’t get to choose when to be patient and when not to be patient. You don’t get to choose when to be successful.
It’s not like I can go and say “9 weeks from now, I’ll be successful” and after 9 weeks you’re successful. It doesn’t work like that (unless you worked extremely hard and had the right guidance).
You get up, do the work, wait for the results, and do it again. Every. Single. Day.
Patience isn’t optional it’s mandatory.
2. Money Now vs Leverage Later
When I first started creating online I saw many creators (my size and bigger) monetize much faster than I did. They were making $1k-5k a month through their online business/personal brand (good).
6 months later, they’re still stuck making the same amount of money. They’re stuck in the cycle of constant client outreach (bad).
Meanwhile, I was getting all of these inbound leads and people wanting to work with me to the point it made no sense other than to launch my mentorship program.
Yes, it took me much longer (almost 9 months) to finally launch an official offer, but I’m happy that I took my time with it. Cuz it allowed me to avoid all of the client outreach and cold DMs that most people struggle with.
As a creator, you can have the biggest leverage at your disposal—social leverage. The more leverage you have, the more money you can make.
My advice:
Whatever decision you make as a creator always ask yourself “Will this increase my leverage?” If the answer is no, then don’t do it.
Never sacrifice long-term leverage for short-term financial gains. It’s never worth it.
If you’re really struggling financially then your focus should be to make just enough money to keep living and the rest of your effort should be focused on building leverage.
3. If you want better results, work less
For the first 6 months, I’ve grinded and worked like a madman.
Engaging 4 hours a day
Tweeting 3x per day
Threads 2x a week
I thought I would grow faster, but all it did was make my hairline recede even more and get massive bags under my eyes that made me look like Frankenstein.
I was so focused on growing my audience that I forgot what made people follow me.
People follow you because you have something to show.
They don’t follow you just because you write 100 comments a day.
They follow you because you have something, other people don’t.
That can be:
Stories
Experience
A skill that you can teach others
But for the last few months, I started experimenting with something new.
I’ve started to engage less than 30 minutes a day and started working more on building something.
I chose to:
Build my email list
Become a better writer
Learn new skills and improve
Then poof, out of nowhere I created a system that allowed me to work less than 3 hours a day and get better results.
That’s what my mentorship program is all about, it’s a system of how I run my personal brand that allows me to work less than 3 hours a day and see better results.
Cuz look you can’t be “on the grind” for years on end. Otherwise, your hairline will start receding like mine (not good).
So if you want my system on how to systemize your content creation process reply with “system” and I’ll send it right over to you.
I have much more to say, but unfortunately, I have an appointment with my barber (I need him to save my hairline)
Until next time,
Hussain
