Building your brand without authority

(How beginners are getting paid to learn)

I've always loved learning.

If something caught my eye, I'd obsess over it until I stood it completely.

And since I train twice a day I’m obsessed with optimizing my performance and recovery.

So 2 months ago I picked up the book Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker.

But in the first few chapters of the book, he talked about caffeine and how it affects our sleep.

It blew my mind.

  • "What do you mean caffeine makes you sleep like someone who's 10 years older?"

  • "Caffeine was more damaging to spiders than LSD, weed, or speed? How?"

  • "Caffeine stays in your body for 12+ hours?"

These were all questions I had when reading that chapter…

And since my friends always called me a caffeine addict, I decided to do an experiment on myself and not drink caffeine for 30 days to prove them wrong.

It was hell.

I never felt like myself.

Always operating at 80% of what I'm used to.

But on the bright side, it meant that my energy levels were stable and my sleep was never better.

It was during that time is when I hit new PRs in the gym (92 kg on squat, 85 kg bench, 140 kg deadlift).

And as a guy who weighs 63 kg, I felt like I was on top of the world.

Girls coming up to me begging me for my number (which I had to reject)…

Just kidding, that last part never happened.

Perhaps it was the lack of caffeine that made me delusional… who knows…

But after my little experiment was over, I bunkered down in my room, whipped out my notebook and pen, and wrote about what I learned from my experiment (because I wanted to educate people about the dangers of caffeine and how it's ruining their lives).

7 days go by and I came out with a 2,000+ word deep dive masterpiece about caffeine…

But I never posted it…

The doubt and imposter syndrome started rushing in.

"Who am I to talk about caffeine and tell people it's bad for them?"

"I'm an engineer turned writer, how can I talk about the brain?"

"I'm not qualified to educate people".

So it sat in my notes for eternity collecting dust (it was 4 days).

That's until I saw someone else's post on Twitter about coffee and the dangers of it…

It was a good post, but I knew I could've written it better.

So I decided to post about my experience with caffeine and I didn’t expect much.

But to my surprise… it blew up and went viral.

Overnight I got:

  • 6,500,000 impressions

  • 200 email signups

Not to mention the countless DMs and emails I got from people telling me how good my post was and it inspired them to quit caffeine.

So why am I telling you this my friend?

Because the internet has made degrees and job titles a thing of the past.

The Permissionless Economy

We now live in a permissionless economy.

You no longer need a degree or permission from someone to talk and educate people about a topic or not.

A quote from Naval that's been stuck in my head for the past 2 years:

"The ideal school would teach health, wealth, and happiness. It‘d be free, self-paced, and available to all. It‘d show opposing ideas and students would self-verify truth. No grades, no tests, no diplomas - just learning. Actually, you’re already here."

This is perfect for you and me.

We have millions of interesting ideas and opinions but never talk about them because we don't have any "authority" (a degree that says we're experts).

But now, that's out of the window.

Authority became relative rather than absolute.

Authority now means you know more than the reader.

Nothing more, nothing less.

So when you educate yourself about topics you're interested in and apply them to projects (like writing deep dives, creating templates, or products) and see results from them, then you by definition, have authority.

Because you gained actual real-world experience (not just theoretical knowledge like you get from a college degree).

When you have real-world experience, you're more than qualified to talk about whatever you want (and monetize it).

In fact, you have a moral obligation now to help and teach others about the topics you've learned.

Otherwise, you're doing a disservice to humanity by not helping them advance as a species.

But impacting people's lives means you need to structure your thoughts persuasively so others would listen to you and take action.

Otherwise, it'll just feel like you're wasting your time and you're posting to the void.

How do I know this my friend?

Cuz I've been there and experienced it all too well.

You see, in my first 14 months of writing online, I was posting into the void and not seeing any real results and I wanted to quit (I was stuck at 800 followers and 100 newsletter readers)…

That's not because I didn't have any ideas to talk about, but because I didn't know how to persuade people to take action.

So I gave myself the entire month of October (last month).

If I couldn't figure out how to persuade people and see any meaningful results, then I'd pack my bags and quit…

But at the beginning of October, I posted the caffeine thread that changed the game for me.

Since then I've gone from 800 followers to 17,700 followers in the span of 5 weeks and finally cracked the code on how to write about topics that you love (persuasively) and change people's lives for the better.

But you don't have to spend that many months struggling to figure it out or go through countless nights doubting yourself.

This is why I'm happy to announce about my Black Friday offer:

Inside I help you grasp the concepts behind how to write your ideas on social media in a way that makes an impact on people's lives (and go viral with your threads).

Here's what you'll get when you buy it this weekend:

  • Access to 9 recording me breaking down every viral thread I wrote and the mistakes I made so you avoid them and accelerate your progression.

  • Access to a live webinar where I'll peel back the curtains behind my entire thread writing process

  • Get a personalized video of me reviewing your thread.

But this offer is only going to be available until Monday, December 2nd, 11:59 p.m. Dubai Time.

After that, the offer is off the table, for good…

So be quick and get it today.

Otherwise, start sharing your ideas with the world and stop listening to the haters saying "You're not an expert so you're not qualified to talk about it".

Cuz they're just jealous that they never had the balls to talk about their interests and share their ideas.

Thank you for reading.

PS:

My biggest problem when I started writing online 14 months ago, was presenting my ideas persuasively, but also in a way that's entertaining (so I don't lose any of my readers).

It took me 14 months of experimenting and trial and error to get the formula right.

But in lesson 5 of module 1, you'll see me tear apart my infamous ADHD thread and give you a template to use for your own threads—so you don't have to go through the struggle and frustration that comes from figuring things out.

I hope to see you inside.
