Free value is keeping you broke

When I first got into the personal branding and creator economy space.

The most common advice I heard was:

"Start a newsletter, solve problems with your emails, then monetize."

So when I began writing emails, I'd spend an entire week researching and writing about a specific problem.

The result?

A super in-depth email with a ton of 'value' but with 0 dollars in your bank account.

Don't get me wrong, I had a lot of fun writing them and I learned a lot, but it was also demoralizing not getting paid for your hard work.

I mean who doesn't want to get paid doing what they love?

But the truth is, the common advice people, give doesn't work.

Why?

Cuz most creators suck at monetizing.

If you give your reader a step-by-step solution, blueprint, or system to solve their problems, then why would they pay you?

The only thing you'll get is many "thank you's" but "thank you's" won't pay your bills. Dollars will.

This isn't to say that money is the only metric for success.

But it is up there.

In a bit, I'll explain why you should avoid "free value".

But first, let's address the elephant in the room:

Does this mean that "free value" doesn't work?

It absolutely does work, If you know how to do it right, then it's extremely profitable.

Let me explain:

Instead of solving problems with your lead magnet or content.

Give insights.

Tell them why the typical stuff doesn't work.

Then present your offer as the solution (which they would have to pay for).

Your goal with 'free value' content isn't to solve their problems.

Your goal is to excite.

Now, let's go back to why "free value" doesn't work.

1) The people who say that you should solve problems with your email are those who started back in COVID days when monetizing was 1000x easier.

2) Everyone is now giving advice and with ChatGPT being able to pump out "actionable content" in a matter of seconds, how are you supposed to compete?

Because if you go hardcore on teaching without sharing anecdotes, stories, or personal perspectives, you're a commodity—and nobody buys from a commodity.

So how should you sell in your emails?

There aren't many people who know how to sell with emails.

But one guy who knows the in's-and-out's of selling with emails, Kieran Drew.

If you don't know him, here's what you need to know about him:

He made $1,000,000 in the past 3 years and 90% of it came from his email list.

And he just opened the doors to Magnetic Emails again.

In lesson 3 of module 1, you'll see the 10 Universal Rules of Magnetic Emails, and rule 3 is called: Excite Don't Educate.

It's also one of the seven criteria for creating authority assets (lead magnets and giveaways) that build your business.

If you want a simple 6-step process for writing emails that build relationships, reputation, and revenue, Magnetic Emails is the course for you.

And if you do end up getting Magnetic Emails through my link by Monday, you'll get:

1) 7 Strategies to Scale Your List From 0 to 1,000 Subscribers and Beyond: It's a recording of a training Kieran Drew about newsletter growth. Inside, he shared 7 strategies to kickstart your newsletter growth (on and off social media, free and paid).

I followed his advice and it led me to 4x'ing my email list in 4 weeks.

2) An Ecosystem of Emails: An upcoming live training session with Kieran where he'll go and peal-back the curtain and show his system of making $5-$15k/mo on autopilot from his welcome sequence, purchase sequences, and more.

3) A 60-minute clarity call: You and I will hop on a call, chat and review your writing (tweets, threads, email, it's up to you).

Just send me an email saying that you've gotten your copy.

Hope this helps,

— Hussain.

PS:

I'd be a hypocrite if I said that I never teach or educate in my emails.

Because I still do.

But the way I like to approach is, teach what I don't sell.

I monetized my writing skills, but how often do you see writing a deep-dive on writing?

Almost never.

But you'll see me write a deep dive about business, philosophy, and lifestyle design.

Now, I'm not selling any business courses or mentorships.

That's because I still see myself as a beginner—so I don't mind sharing what I'm doing.

But whenever I talk about these topics, I can still tie it back to my offer, writing.

You just have to be smart about teaching and work your way around your offer. Talk about the benefits of your offer.

How will your offer help your One True Fan improve their lives?

Talk about adjacent topics. For example, if you're in the relationships niche, you can talk about building muscle (because building muscle will help you be more confident).

See what I mean?

Work your way around the benefits.

Now, if you want to do it and see it in action yourself.
