Why I quit my engineering job

Since I was a kid, I have been obsessed with 1 thing:

Changing people's lives.

Life's tough—which is why we should commit to something bigger than ourselves and help make it a better place for other people to live in (even if it's by a little bit).

This is why I fell in love with engineering—I could build buildings for people to live in.

But once I saw how greedy and money-hungry the people at the top were, I switched to academia.

Teaching people is the best way to make an impact in someone's life.

With knowledge and ideas, you get to change their perceptions, and beliefs, and equip them with skills where they could change the world.

But there were 3 problems with academia:

1) It takes a long time before you can become a professor

2) Classes had a limit on the number of students who could signup

3) You're only allowed to talk about the topics you've studied

It's why I fell in love with writing online.

People don't care about your qualifications. They only care about how it can impact their lives.

Online, you can explore your curiosity, talk about ideas you care about, reach thousands (sometimes even millions) of people and help improve their lives, who then go on to help thousands more.

It's a beautiful butterfly effect—something that I sometimes don't realize just how crazy it is.

I still wake up to DMs from people who tell me how my writing changed their lives.

It's what gets me up every morning excited to write, keeps me going when things are hard, and most importantly, brings me fulfillment.

My friend, this is why I love writing threads. they’re the best way to reach people at scale.

Especially us, creators, writers, entrepreneurs.

Threads give readers a chance to learn about something they were never taught in school. It's how you help make their lives a little easier. It's how you create fans.

And fans are the secret to a successful business. They're the ones who will keep buying from you. They're the ones who will recommend you to their friends.
