I wish I learned this skill before wasting months of trying to "figure it out"

Hint: It's not marketing, sales, or writing

My first 6 months of writing online were hell. No engagement, no followers, no one cared about what I had to share.

I used to only post advice and platitude tweets.

And on the rare occasion, I got a comment it used to be those who tried to sound smart and re-worded what I said in the tweet.

Good job, you just ruined my perfectly written tweet.

This is a mistake that cost me months of effort—only writing advice tweets and How-to's, trying to sound authoritative but ending up sounding like a boring professional.

But then I started learning about the power of storytelling, things took a turn for the better.

Engagement went up, gained more followers, and people started caring about what I had to say (and the people who re-worded the tweets stopped commenting).

Now there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t post a story tweet.

At first, I thought no one cared about your story or experiences. Turns out I was wrong. Stories are part of human nature.

Humans are emotional creatures, not logical ones (as much as it pains me to admit this to the little engineer that's inside me).

Humans communicate through stories. It's how we've made sense of the world around us.

On social media, everyone is looking for validation and someone to look up and relate to.

When you share your stories you present yourself as a friend (someone on their level), not their teacher.

Cuz look, People follow people.

Sharing your story is how you make people relate to you—it is one of the fastest and best ways to build trust and attract an audience.

Story tweets are all about turning the little moments you have in your day-to-day life into content.

What makes you weird, happy, sad, etc. All of these can be turned into content.

Your stories have everything that you need to build a successful and profitable brand.

Are they useful? Yes

Are they inspiring? No doubt

Are they entertaining? You bet your ass they are

Next time when you're going to write a "How To" or an advice post, ask yourself "Can you share a story that is related to your advice?".

Remember:

Most people don't listen to the advice they're given, but they do listen to it when it's presented through a story.

PS:

Storytelling is a hard skill, and writing stories in a tweet is harder.

But in the last 11 months of writing online and investing more than $3,000 in courses and mentorships, I've found 9 'types' of content that do well. Story tweets are only 1 of those types.

I break these down in module in module 2 of The Modern Creator, including templates and tweets so you can see them in action and understand how they work (without wasting months or years trying to "figure it out").

This email, as you guessed, uses storytelling, but also my PSG framework that I use when it comes to writing newsletters (which you'll get to know more about in The Modern Creator).

If you struggle to write stories that grab people's attention or build an audience around your interests, this course will help you with that.

It's on a $50 pre-sale for 13 more days.
