- You're a copycat
You're a copycat
Since the day you were born, you were copying other people.
You copied the sounds they were making and that’s how you learned how to speak.
You copied how shapes looked and that’s how you learned how to write.
You copied how people around you acted and that’s how you learned how to fit in with your community.
Copying people is a natural process we humans do.
We copy others to fit in and survive.
It’s an evolutionary behavior we adopted.
If you go back to ancient times, the people who didn’t “fit in” within their communities they were kicked out of their tribes.
But I’m not here to give you a boring history lesson.
I’m here to tell you that even the creators you look up to are copying and stealing from each other.
They steal:
• Ideas
• Tweets
• Threads
• Lead magnets
• Products
We don’t know it because they steal like an artist.
Even my last thread that performed so well was inspired by Dan Koe but most of you don’t even know it (it’s because I used a process).
Here’s my 5-step process on how you can steal people’s content (without being caught just like the pros):
1) Domain Of Interests:
Choose 3 topics you’re interested in.
These will be broad topics.
They can be:
• Health
• Relationships
• Online Business
Your job is then to break them down into sub-components, it will help you write better.
Let’s take online business, you can talk about:
• Building an email list
• Attracting an audience
• Creating a lead magnet
• Creating a landing page
• Creating a digital product
The list keeps going on.
You will find that one domain might overlap with another, that’s good.
It means you can link each topic to one another. This way you’ll have an unlimited source of topics and inspiration for your niche.
Now, let’s start your imitation process:
2) Finding Your Mentors
You become what you consume, so consume content that helps you become the person you want.
Find 3-5 creators for each domain that have changed how you view things.
• The creator that blows you away each time they post
• The creator that changed how you view life (for the better).
• The creator that makes you go “How did they say it so perfectly?”
These creators are your mentors.
Start consuming their content daily.
3) Research Don’t Consume:
Consuming content means you aren’t doing anything with it.
You’re just filling up your mental space with useless information and feel tired later.
Cars need the right fuel to work correctly—The same goes for your brain.
To create high-quality content you’ll need to start consuming high-quality information.
That is why most creators struggle with:
• Engagement
• Writer’s block
• Creative problems
Start by learning about your Domain of Interest.
It allows you to explore your curiosities and expand your perspective.
Each domain is an iceberg that runs deep and connects to everything else (if you’re willing to go deeper).
Start taking notes of ideas, content, and inspiration—Build a database of genius ideas.
4) Analyze
Everything you consume now has a practical application.
Your goal is to create a unique perspective.
Here’s how you can analyze the topics you research about:
• Choose a topic that relates to you
• A short summary of your understanding
• Common problems related to that topic
• Common solutions to solving those problems
• Objections people have to solve those problems
Personal experiences, case studies, and stories you have with that topic
A step-by-step framework for overcoming that problem
This will allow you to write say a quote-like tweet from your perspective.
5) Creating A Project
You need to apply your learnings to a project.
That’s how you learn faster.
If you don’t have a project you won’t pick up on “random” information that has the potential to make your project 10x better.
After analyzing you have just created an outline for a:
• Blog
• Tweet
• Thread
• Podcast
• YouTube video
These can be your projects.
Share them with the world, collect feedback, and iterate on your best ideas.
That’s how you become a copycat without being a copycat.
Thank you for reading! I’ll see you next week (maybe earlier who knows ;))
